MCiM is a new program at Stanford University, and currently does not have department-based scholarships or waivers that can be offered at this time. Sources of funding for graduate education range from government agencies, employers and foundations to academic departments and schools.

MCiM is open to individuals from a variety of technical backgrounds. We aim to have a student body that bring a diverse set of perspective and experiences to the cohort. 

To be eligible to apply for MCiM, applicants must meet one of the following conditions:

• Applicants must hold, or expect to hold before enrollment at Stanford, a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. college or university accredited by a regional accrediting association.

• Applicants from institutions outside the U.S. must hold the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree from a college or university of recognized standing. See minimum level of study required of International applicants.

Stanford University also requires a minimum proficiency in English. 

Evidence of adequate English proficiency must be submitted before enrollment is approved by Graduate Admissions. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) scores are required of all applicants whose first language is not English.  Learn more about TOEFL as a required exam, exemptions and waivers here.

Yes, undocumented student may apply. Stanford is committed to a welcoming and supportive environment for all students, faculty, staff and scholars, and it provides services and support to them without regard to their immigration status, religion, nationality, ethnicity or other characteristics. That commitment includes support for undocumented students. Please see the Undocumented at Stanford website for additional information.

According to the Stanford Graduate Admissions website, there are exemptions for submitting a TOEFL score if you meet one of the following criteria:You (will) have a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree from a regionally-accredited college or university in the United States (excluding territories and possessions).
You (will) have an equivalent degree from an English-language university in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, or the United Kingdom.The online application will not require you to submit a TOEFL score if you meet one of the criteria listed above for an exemption. U.S. citizenship does not automatically exempt you from taking the TOEFL if your first language is not English.

Unfortunately, MCiM is not accepting co-terminal students beyond MD-MCiM students offered through the special discovery curriculum.  

Of our inaugural  cohort (2021-22) roughly half of our student body is "mid-career", meaning they have 3-15 years of professional experience. A quarter is "early-career", meaning less than 3 years, and the remaining student body has over 15 years of professional experience making them "senior-career" professionals. 

For our second cohort (2022-23) the cohort is slightly skewed towards "mid-career" to "senior-career" professionals. 

We do not have a minimum GPA requirement.

Yes, applicants need three recommendations from faculty or others qualified to evaluate your potential for graduate study. At least one evaluation and letter should be from a faculty member at the last school you attended as a full-time student (unless you have been out of school for more than five years). Substitutions for faculty recommendations may include work associates or others who can comment on your academic potential for graduate work.

There is a $125 application fee, this fee must be paid via credit card. Fee waivers may be available.

After submitting an application, candidates will only be able to update the Letter of Recommendation requests on the application portal. Should an applicant need to update other materials after submission, they may email MCiM directly with the updated materials at MCiMinquiry@stanford.edu.

To promote fairness in the admissions process, all application materials must be received by the final deadline of January 12^th, 2024 to be considered for the 2024-2025 admission cycle.

Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to attend one of the many MCiM informational sessions available during the admissions season to gain further insight into the program and the competencies we look for in applicants.
