To prepare students for this dynamic market, M-TRAM provides the problem-solving skills, competencies, and strategies to advance biomedical solutions from the initial research idea to the clinic, both in industry and academic settings. Technology areas of focus include immunotherapy, gene therapy, vaccines, biomarkers, single-cell omics, and medical devices. Students therefore will be uniquely positioned for careers in clinical or academic laboratories, the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry, or continued education at the doctoral level, medicine, or both.

M-TRAM’s one-year program rests on a three-pronged foundation: flexible classroom learning that allows students who are employed to work part time (50 units of core science, technology, drug discovery and clinical study design courses spanning four consecutive quarters); hands-on, team-based medical research and biotechnology training led by some of the world’s leading biomedical experts; and one-on-one mentoring by renowned Stanford faculty and industry leaders serving on M-TRAM’s Advisory Board.

M-TRAM provides the essential tools to build an exciting career in the rapidly growing field of translational medicine. This program equips students with applied research experience and in-depth understanding of how to translate basic research into medical products from the perspectives of both academic research (discovery) and downstream commercial development. We expect graduates to move directly to positions in academia and industry.

M-TRAM is designed to develop the careers of individuals who will assume leadership roles in the development and management of programs that lead to therapeutics, diagnostics, and medical devices. The specific outcome will depend on the prior training of the individual. Graduates will be able to select multiple pathways in Academia, Research and Development, Marketing Management, Portfolio Management, and Clinical, Quality, Regulatory areas.
