CDC Expands Hepatitis B Testing Recommendations for Chemotherapy Patients

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released new recommendations in September 2008, for health care providers to increase routine testing for chronic hepatitis B, the major cause of liver disease and liver cancer worldwide. The CDC now recommends routine hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) testing for all people born in Asia and Africa, as well as testing additional at-risk populations, including persons who require immunosuppressive therapy.

Promoting Hepatitis B and Liver Cancer Wellness in the Global Workplace

This toolkit delineates 5 key steps that employers can take to promote hepatitis B (HBV) wellness amongst employees. This includes guidance on appropriate employee healthcare coverage with relation to HBV; elimination of discriminatory HBV policies; and employee HBV education, risk assessment, screening, and vaccination.
