November 17, 2025 - Dr. Nick Leeper receives 2025 Special Recognition Award in Arteriosclerosis
Congratulations to Dr. Nick Leeper for receipt of the 2025 Special Recognition Award in Arteriosclerosis from the ATVB Council. The Council on Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology (ATVB) established the Special Recognition Award in 1981 to recognize council members who have made significant contributions to the council as well as the fields of Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology.
The Council's Nominated Committee selects one person from each field (Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology) to receive the ATVB Special Recognition Award. The award is presented annually during the ATVB Business Meeting and Awards Reception at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions.
Current members of the ATVB Leadership Committee and the ATVB Nominating Committee are not eligible to be nominated for the award.
November 17, 2025 - Lingfeng Luo selected as finalist for Elaine Raines Competition
Congrats to Lingfeng Luo for being selected as a finalist in the 2025 Elaine Raines Competition at AHA Scientific Sessions. The Elaine W. Raines Early Career investigator Award recognizes the Council on Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology early career investigator members who are performing high quality research in the fields of arteriosclerosis, thrombosis and vascular biology. Candidates will be considered not only for the quality and relevance of their research being submitted to Scientific Sessions but also for their accomplishments, contributions to their fields and expertise as researchers in general.
November 17, 2025 - Dr. Anand Athavale Awarded 2026 AVF-Jobst Research Grante
Dr. Anand Athavale, Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Vascular Surgery at Stanford, has been selected to receive the prestigious 2026 AVF-JOBST Clinical Research Grant Award from the American Venous Forum (AVF).
August 18, 2025 - Drs. Nicholas Leeper and Lingfeng Luo Receive SCI Innovation Award for October 2025 Cycle
Dr. Nicholas J. Leeper and Dr. Lingfeng Luo have been awarded a Stanford Cancer Institute (SCI) Innovation Award for their project on how cancer promotes cardiovascular risk. The award is part of the SCI's October 2025 funding cycle.

At Holman 2025, the Leeper Lab showcased cutting-edge research spanning cancer, atherosclerosis, and peripheral arterial disease. Dr. Lingfeng Luo presented on the surprising molecular links between cancer and atherosclerosis. Dr. Shaunak Adkar highlighted how TET2 mutations and clonal hematopoiesis may contribute to foam cell formation and plaque development. Dr. Sabrina Sorondo's research shared insights into how incretin-based therapies could improve outcomes in peripheral arterial disease, with Dr. Adkar presenting. Dr. Yoko Kojima unveiled a novel finding—atypical antipsychotics as unexpected enhancers of efferocytosis—and was awarded Best Basic Science Poster for her work.
