In my doctoral work, I explored topics related to cancer, RNA interference, and cell death. Through this work I developed an interest in molecular interactions between cancer cells and the immune system. As a member of the Krams lab, my goal is to understand how extracellular vesicles (EVs) released from Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) infected B cells regulate the antiviral immune response in solid organ transplant recipients. I hypothesize that EVs impair the immune response, promoting the development of B-cell cancers collectively called post-transplantation lymphoproliferative disorders.
Outside of lab, I like to explore new areas and spend time hiking, camping, birding, and rock climbing. I volunteer with the Bay Area Puma Project, an organization studying mountain lions in the Bay Area. When I’m not outdoors, you can usually find me at the movies, trying new restaurants, or at the climbing gym.
