Uchicago Medical Student Grace Keegan (Mentee of Dr. Knowlton) Presents Research on Trauma Patient Coverage at Prestigious Surgical Conferences  

Grace Keegan (4th year medical student at UChicago and mentee of Dr. Knowlton) presented “Traumatic Injury as an Opportunity to Acquire Health Coverage and Reduce Readmission in Trauma Patients” at the podium at the annual Pacific Coast Surgical Association at Kona, Hawaii on February 24, 2025 (see pics attached). Dr. Knowlton closed the discussion.

Earlier this month on February 11th, she presented her work on emergency Medicaid programs within Chicago trauma centers at the Academic Surgical Congress in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Knowlton and Team at Stanford Medicine Receive Prestigious ARPA-H Funding through White House Initiative

Lisa Knowlton, MD, MPH, is the co-recipient of up to $22.3 million award from the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) to improve intraoperative anatomy visualization and critical structure identification. The prestigious five-year award will be led by Co-Principal Investigators Dr. Knowlton and Zhongming (Jeremy) Li, PhD, founding CEO of CisionVision, a medical device company in Mountain View, CA.

Tennakoon, Knowlton Receive California Firearm Violence Research Center Grant

Drs. Lakshika Tennakoon and Lisa Knowlton have received a grant from the California Firearm Violence Research Center at UC Davis. Almost $100k will fund their research project: “Leveraging natural language processing for identifying intimate partner violence using unstructured healthcare data.” The work will be focused on leveraging natural language processing to identify intimate partner violence using unstructured healthcare data.

Dr. Knowlton Selected for ACS, AWS Leadership Programs

In the past month, Dr. Lisa Knowlton was selected to participate in two different leadership programs.

Knowlton was named one of 15 Health Policy Scholars by the American College of Surgeons (ACS). She completed the Leadership Program in Health Policy and Management at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. She will serve in a health policy-related capacity for the ACS and the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, which cosponsored her award.

The Association of Women Surgeons (AWS) selected Knowlton to be part of their 2024 "Breaking the Glass Ceiling” Leadership Education cohort. The program provides funding to attend a leadership conference or course of her choosing. Knowlton will participate in the Executive Program in Leadership course through the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Dr. Knowlton: 2024 Seed Grant & Instrument Funding Recipient

The 2024 Seed Grant and Instrument Funding winners have been announced by the Research and Innovation Committees. Six seed grants were awarded to researchers in the Division of Abdominal Transplantation, General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and Pediatric Surgery.

Knowlton Lab Summer Interns Wesley Hendricks and Alexander Gibson to present at Academic Surgical Congress 2024

Brigham Young University undergraduate students Wesley Hendricks and Alexander Gibson recently completed a productive summer internship at the Knowlton Lab. They have each been recognized with oral presentations at the upcoming 2024 Academic Surgical Congress annual meeting in Washington, DC.

Dr. Lisa Knowlton is the recipient of the 2023 James IV Traveling Fellowship award. his international fellowship is awarded to outstanding and accomplished surgeons, providing them with a unique opportunity to engage in academic and clinical exchange programs across various countries and institutions.

Dr. Knowlton wins AAST Canizaro Award

Dr. Lisa Knowlton has won the Canizaro Award at the 82nd annual meeting of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST). The Canizaro Award recognizes the best paper by a new full member.

Dr. Knowlton Receives NIH R01

Dr. Lisa Knowlton has received an R01 grant from the National Health Institute’s National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD). $3.5 million in funding will support her research project “Increasing Medicaid Acquisition and Sustainment Among the Uninsured.”
