Dr. Jonathan Liu is a professor within the department of pathology at Stanford University, where his laboratory develops high-resolution optical-imaging devices and computational-analysis strategies for guiding treatment decisions. Dr. Liu received an undergraduate engineering degree (BSE) at Princeton followed by graduate degrees (MS, PHD) in engineering at Stanford before becoming a ACS-funded postdoc and K99 instructor within the School of Medicine at Stanford. Dr. Liu held faculty positions at Stony Brook University (2010 - 2014) and at the University of Washington in Seattle (2014 - 2025) before being recruited back to Stanford in 2025. Dr. Liu is a co-founder and board member of Alpenglow Biosciences Inc., which has commercialized the non-destructive 3D pathology technologies developed in his lab. Dr. Liu’s work is funded by the NCI, NIBIB, NIDDK, DoD, NSF, ARPA-H and various foundations.
