Frequently Asked Questions
SHIP CBT-I Training for Licensed Providers
Can I join just for the workshop?
As a large focus of our training program is supporting clinicians in developing competency in CBT-I, we do not offer our CBT-I workshop independent from the six-month competency training phase.
When is the latest I can enroll / when do I need to enroll?
Enrollment is on a rolling basis, so spots are open until they are filled. When you are ready to enroll, you have two weeks to submit payment and secure your spot.
What is your refund policy?
A full refund will be granted until 1 month prior to the workshop start date. If a refund is requested in less than 1 month from the workshop start date, a refund will only be granted if we can find another clinician to fill your spot.
Can I join as a resident, post-doc or trainee?
Unfortunately, we can only train clinicians who are providing treatment under their own license. Trainees who are already licensed and have a context in which they can practice independently are welcome to join.
Do you have any lower cost options / offer a reduced rate for training?
If you are interested in a lower cost option, we occasionally offer larger consultation groups (6-person vs 4-person) at a slightly lower cost. These larger groups do not meet requirements for consultation hours towards CBT-I C certification. If you are interested in being on a wait list for an upcoming larger group, please let us know.
Does this training count towards CBT-I-C certification?
The Society for Behavioral Sleep Medicine is now offering a certification in CBT-I (CBTI-C). Our training program is an accredited CBTI-C training program! Clinicians participating in our program, starting in March 2026 onward, are eligible to apply for certification through the Society of Behavioral Sleep Medicine using standard track. Clinicians who trained with us prior to March 2026, or who are participating in consultation groups with more than four providers, may apply through alternate track. It is the responsibility of the individual clinician to verify eligibility through the SBSM.
What is the difference between completing this program and getting certified in CBTI-C?
Upon successful completion of this training program, you will receive a certificate of completion from the Stanford Sleep Health and Insomnia Program.
Some of our learners decide to further pursue CBT-I certification (CBTI-C) offered through the Society of Behavioral Sleep Medicine. We are happy to be an accredited CBTI-C training program.
For counting hours, clinical hour accrual for each clinician is dependent on their CBT-I caseload and CBTI-C certification requires successful completion of 2 CBT-I cases. Please note that the SBSM requires that consultation groups are composed of 4 providers or less. It is the responsibility of the individual clinician to verify eligibility through the SBSM.
Does this training count towards DBSM certification?
The SBSM also offers a more comprehensive certification in Behavioral Sleep Medicine: The Diplomate in Behavioral Sleep Medicine (DBSM). Clinicians participating in our training program can meet some of the requirements for this certification through the Alternate Track. Required clinical hours for DBSM certification do not have a size limit on consultation groups.
Are there additional training opportunities? What if I want to learn more?
At the request of clinicians who have already completed our CBT-I training program, we now offer ‘grad groups’ – ongoing bi-weekly consultation groups for graduates of our training program. These programs are offered in six-month increments at a reduced cost compared to the core consultation phase. We are also in the process of developing a set of advanced trainings that we will offer to program graduates.
