Research

The IMMERS lab has a variety of research projects in several broad categories.  Navigate to one of the focus areas below to learn more about specific projects.

Research Focus Areas

  • Guidance

Mixed reality can be a powerful tool for image-guided medical procedures, as it allows clinicians to visualize the medical imaging data in 3D directly aligned to the patient.

  • Perception

A particular challenge with mixed reality is ensuring that virtual content is perceived accurately, with the appropriate shape, in the correct position and orientation, and with the proper relationships to other virtual and real content.

  • Visualization

Mixed reality is a powerful tool for 3D visualization of medical imaging data. It allows users to view and interact with anatomical structures in 3D, and also enables collaboration, as multiple people can view the same virtual content simultaneously.
