Alzheimer's Disease and Down Syndrome
Resources for Caregivers and Clinicians
Alzheimer’s is a brain disease that leads to dementia and impacts a person’s memory, thinking skills and ability to do simple tasks. The disease is defined by high levels of plaques and tangles in the brain. These plaques and tangles are fragments of proteins or groups of twisted proteins that may interfere with the communication between cells in the brain.
