The School of Medicine's EECI and Employee and Labor Relations Teams are dedicated to ensuring a fair, equitable recruitment and hiring process. Both teams collaborated to develop a set of behavioral-based inclusive interview questions mapped to competencies that may be used in the workplace. Hiring managers and HR personnel can review the questions below. This resource is intended as a helpful guide as you customize your interview questions for candidates.

Developed by disabled employees and allies affiliated with the Disability Staff Forum (DSF) and Diversity and Access Office, this workshop series educated the broader Stanford community on Disability as a diverse and highly individualized identity and experience during  October 2022's Disability Employment Awareness Month. This series also offered employees clear guidance on seeking disability-related accommodations while supporting employees who seek to grow as advocates and allies in understanding disability accommodations through practical ways that supervisors, colleagues, HR staff, and managers can support disabled employees’ needs and experiences.

The Employee Emergency Assistance Fund is available for eligible staff who need help when they experience a short-term financial emergency or unanticipated expenses that cause them financial hardship. The EEAF reimburses actual expenses arising from qualified events, so you can recover quickly.

There are two types of grants: Qualified Disaster and Personal Hardship. These grants are considered non-taxable income; they are not loans and do not have to be repaid. Awards are based on financial need and the severity and impact of the disaster or other emergency on you and your family.

The employee respite resources was created to support employees prior to and during heat waves, extremely hot weather, fire season, unplanned emergency shut-downs, and other natural disasters in the Bay Area. These resources were compiled by members of the School of Medicine's Human Resources Group.

The LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Guide was created by the LGBTQ+ Subcommittee of the Stanford Medicine Diversity Cabinet, in recognition of common challenges in finding LGBTQ+ community, related benefits, organization, and advocacy resources as a new employee at Stanford.

The guide includes information such as Stanford LGBTQ+ Groups / Listservs; Stanford Benefits; LGBTQ+ owned Businesses/Establishments; Career/Mentoring resources for LGBTQ+ folks; Local LGBTQ+ Centers / Orgs; Local LGBTQ+ affirming Providers/Directories; National Resources; LGBTQ+ Research / Journals / Databases; and LGBTQ+ News / Magazines.

LGBTQ+ Health Benefits

The purpose of this document is to offer recommended practices for inclusive hybrid meetings and teaching experiences, given the changing landscape of the workplace and to support disabled community members at Stanford Medicine. Given the evolving nature of the workplace, this document offers recommended practices and resources on how to lead and engage in inclusive hybrid meetings.

Stanford Medicine Accessible Technology (SMAT) is a group dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion looking to create partnerships across Stanford Medicine, Stanford University, and beyond to facilitate the discovery, use, and provision of technology that enhances lived experiences by ensuring accessibility.  We seek to foster inclusivity and create genuine spaces of belonging where anyone, regardless of physical or cognitive differences, can have access to the support they need to thrive. Our goal is to leverage technology to promote a more inclusive and accessible workplace. 

Practices for Inclusive Hybrid Meetings

The goal of this guide is to provide simplified and clear guidance on how individuals with disabilities can navigate requesting and maintaining accommodations in their Stanford Medicine workplaces. The purpose of this effort is to demystify the accommodations process for employees and provide resources for consideration and community.

Requesting Accommodations Guide for School of Medicine Employees and Managers

This document is a guide on practical approaches and recommendations that can apply across teams, departments, and organizations to systemically support staff wellness and prevent burnout. This is not a policy of Stanford University, Stanford Medicine, or Stanford School of Medicine.

The resources listed are starting places to help incoming staff navigate resources at Stanford and in the local San Francisco Bay Area, including San Mateo County and Santa Clara County resources. These resources were compiled by members of the School of Medicine's Office of Employee Experience and Community Impact (EECI) team.

The Restorative Justice Community of Practice toolkit was created as part of the Stanford Medicine Restorative Justice Hub, which consists of a group of individuals who are trained in restorative justice practices. Restorative circles provide an opportunity for people to connect using a versatile practice that can be taken proactively, to develop relationships and build community, or reactively, to respond to wrongdoing, conflicts, and harms. Circles give people an opportunity to speak and listen to one another in an atmosphere of safety, decorum, and equity. This document is intended to equip leaders with templates and resources they may need as circle planning and processes unfold across Stanford Medicine in service of a more connected, unified, and healing environment. These templates and resources are specifically targeted to create a Community of Practice with up to 8 individuals and 1-2 coaches to upskill and build confidence in Tier 1 and Tier 2 practice.

The Office of General Counsel (OGC) has developed a two-page General Guidance: Contacts with Law Enforcement document that provides some practical step-by-step actions you can take to help you with an interaction with law enforcement personnel.

The Stanford Law School (SLS) Immigrants' Rights Clinic has compiled community resources for currently enrolled and matriculated students who are concerned that they may be impacted by recent immigration changes. Resources also include information for Stanford community members who are non-citizens and have other immigration legal questions about themselves, a family member, or a community member.

For immediate assistance, contact Stanford’s Department of Public Safety if you feel comfortable doing so. Members of the Stanford community are encouraged to immediately and accurately report any criminal offense, suspected criminal activity, or other emergency directly to the Stanford University Department of Public Safety (SUDPS) or the law enforcement agency with jurisdiction where the incident is taking place or occurred. If an individual affected by a crime is unable to report, prompt reporting by a member of the community is encouraged.

The Stanford Immigration Guidance website compiles and summarizes advice from various resources about your rights if you are contacted by federal law enforcement agencies. It is not a substitute for legal advice. Please note: The university does not share information with anyone, including law enforcement authorities, about immigration status, religion, nationality, ethnicity or other information about individual students without a student’s permission, unless presented with a judicially issued subpoena or other legally binding requirement. The JEDI team has published its third article in Inside Higher Ed. This article offers ideas for a trauma-informed approach to support employee well-being in an election year. With thoughtful reflection, planning, and action, higher education institutions can continue to cultivate supportive workplace environments and leverage these strategies when navigating uncertainty.

The Community Conversations for Care series is organized and sponsored by the Office for IDEAL Advancement, the School of Medicine Office Employee Experience & Community Impact, and the Office of External Relations.
