Led by Associate Dean, Kevin Moody, this program offers employees at all levels an opportunity to develop foundational leadership skills.

Program Overview

LEAP Goals

Through this course you will use outcomes from the StrengthFinders assessment to understand how to put your best foot forward in almost any situation. You will develop a range of skills from developing more self-awareness and asking for feedback to identifying your blind spots. You will also learn how to give constructive feedback to help others unveil their blind spots. Additionally, you will learn how to build your networking skills to access leaders and mentors in your respective fields within Stanford. At the culmination of this course you will be able to describe how concepts like influence, emotional intelligence, communication, self-management, collaboration, and accountability are integral to strong leadership.

What does 'LEAP' stand for?

Leadership

Leapers will gain foundational knowledge on how to put their best foot forward in almost any situation.

Education

Leapers learn a wide range of skills, from self-awareness to giving constructive feedback.

Access

Instructors are leaders in their respective fields within Stanford, granting those anywhere in the organization access and connection to decision makers.

Power

Leapers gain introductory understanding to concepts such as influence, emotional intelligence, communication, self-management, collaboration, and accountability.

How do I participate?

Step 1: Register for the course.

Step 2: Watch for enrollment instructions from the L&OD Team.

Step 3: After enrollment, you'll begin the course and $200 STAP will be charged.

Step 4: Finish the course by completing all activities and concluding self-attestation.

Step 5: Rejoice as you receive the LEAP Certificate and take the next step in your career.

Expectations

Expectations:

You get out of LEAP what you put into LEAP. Set aside time to review each module and complete the activities included. Each module includes content and activities that introduce specific topics. Participants need to complete each of the activities in order to gain an overall understanding of the leadership concepts introduced. As it is self-paced, it is up to you to complete the activities for each of the modules. To be considered for graduation, all modules, activities and the capstone project must be completed before the course ends.

Those accepted into the Enhanced Cohort are expected to attend four live sessions with Kevin Moody:

Participants are expected to communicate openly with each other throughout the eight-week long program.
Those who are in the Enhanced program will be required to complete pre-meeting work.
All participants are expected to commit five hours per week, or a minimum 40 hours total, of learning and application through activities, videos, and discussions throughout the eight week course.
All participants need to complete each of the activities to be considered for graduation. All modules, activities and the capstone project must be completed before the course ends.
All participants are expected to be responsible for their actions, communications, and energy. For additional information please review the Online Community Guidelines.
All participants are expected to complete feedback and reflection surveys provided by the Learning & Organziational Development Team. At most, this includes completing a short survey each month and a feedback survey at the end of the course.

FAQ's

How long is the LEAP program?

Participants have 8 weeks to complete the course. The Summer 2022 cohort will take place from May 2 - June 24, 2022.

How much does LEAP cost?

200 STAP dollars.

Who is the program designed for?

The audience we created the course for are apiring leaders within Stanford University, School of Medicine.

What if I'm not in the School of Medicine?

That is okay, we believe in institutional collaboration and connection. We do ask that you register with your SUNet and Stanford email to help us track participation.

What is the difference between the Enhanced vs. the Self-Paced version?

Enhanced: This course has 4 Live Sessions you are expected to attend. For the cohort beginning on May 2, 2022 the Live Session dates and times are as follows:

How many people will be in my cohort?

In the Enhanced course, you'll have a small cohort of 20 people. In the Self-Paced cohort you'll have up to 100 colleagues to connect with.

What are the community guidelines?

Excellent question, all of our courses align to the same Online Community Guidelines. Feel free to read through them anytime.

How many hours should I commit to the program?

We estimate a total of 30-60 hours of content and activity throughout the course. Our weekly estimate is 5 hours per week. Remember, you get out of this course what you put into it and, therefore, we recommend alotting for a minimum of 40 hours over the course of 8 weeks.

What platform are you using?

We utilize Coursera for this course. In the Enhanced cohort you'll also utilize Zoom for the Live Sessions.

How do I register?

Once registration opens for the next cohort, you will use your SUNet ID and Stanford email. This link will take you to a Qualtrics Form and we will accept applicants on a first-come, first-served, basis.

Summer 2022 Cohort Participants Only: What happens after I register?

For the Summer 2022 cohort, you'll be notified by April 27, 2022 that you have been accepted and the next steps. If you are not selected for this cohort you will be given additional opportunities for registration.

What are the learning outcomes? What am I expected to take away from this course?

Excellent question! By the end of the course, LEAPers will:

Recognize and utilize their strengths identified on the StrengthsFinder assessment to be successful in and out of the workplace.
Identify and define their blindspots through the StrengthsFinder assessment.
Recognize when they are receiving feedback and how to turn feedback into actionable insights around blind spots.
Receive and give feedback with intentional outcomes for conversations.
Explain when and why it is appropriate to give feedback.
Practice listening actively.
Develop their personal brand using feedback, active listening and influence.
Demonstrate in a capstone project how the course concepts promote their successful career development.
