What is the difference between a Buddy and a Mentor?
A buddy helps ensure that a new hire settles into their role successfully and helps them to build confidence during this time. They are often from a similar role and focus on more of the cultural aspects with a focus on the present.
A mentor is most typically a non-peer, who focuses on developing the new hires career and personal skills. A mentor relationship typically focuses on short- and long-term goals, planning and deciding the future.
How do we select Buddy pairs?
We try our best to pair junior buddies areas of development with senior buddies areas of expertise. In order to be paired, the junior and senior buddy cannot be in the same department or unit. However, ideally, they will be in similar roles.
