Stanford Health Care, Tri-Valley hospitals earn top honors from Leapfrog Group

A leader in U.S. hospital quality ratings has given Stanford Health Care and Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley top grades for safety. Stanford Health Care was also named a top teaching hospital.

SHC-TV Physician of the Quarter

Dr. Jeffrey Ketchersid was nominated as SHC-TV's Physician of the Quater. This award recognizes a hospital provider who delivers quality and safe patient care, is well-respected by their colleagues, and has demonstrated exceptional work throughout the organization.

SHC Tri-Valley Associate Chief Medical Officer

Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley Hospital has appointed Dr. Weihan Chu as the hospital's new Associate Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Chu will join Chief Medical Officer Dr. David Svec and Senior Director Jennifer Berg to support Patient Safety, Infection Control, and Accreditation, Regulatory and Licensing.

Food Allergies Across the World with Dr. Kathleen Jia

The Sean N. Parker Center for Allergy and Asthma Research at Stanford University leads and participates in many clinical trials to develop new therapies for allergic disorders. Our studies include a wide range of patients, representing a diverse group of ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds. Congratulations 2021 Clinical Academy

The 2021 Stanford Healthcare ValleyCare Clinical Academy led by Dr. Alice Cha and Dr. Neel Chari has come to an end. It was a welcoming challenge for us to teach 42 students physical exam virtually, which transformed us into teachers that are more versatile. Our program speakers were from diverse institutions, including hospitalists from Stanford’s Medicine division, community physicians, and UCSF faculty. We are very appreciative of their collaboration and time. Our student’s demographics have also enveloped into a more diverse group this year. Most of them are from local high schools in the Tri-Valley area, yet sprinkled with students from the peninsula, East Bay, southern California, and even New York. We are also very pleased to announce we were able to grant one full scholarship to a low-income student based on their merit. Although it was 100% virtual, students received individual kits to participate in interactive suturing, dissection, and CPR training sessions. The Academy has sparked students to consider careers as physicians, physician assistants, and nurses.

Gross misinterpretation of CDC data hurts efforts to fight the virus

The credibility of medical professionals and the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic are once again under attack, this time with the words “only 6 percent.” This number has been circulating in the news and social media ever since a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report on COVID-19 deaths was released, showing data that 94% of deaths involving patients with COVID-19 had comorbidities, while 6% of death certificates listed solely COVID-19 as the cause of death alone. Recipient of the “Arthur L. Bloomfield Award

The MD Program Teaching Awards Student Selection Committee, has selected Chad Anderson, PA-C as one of the recipients of the “Arthur L. Bloomfield Award in Recognition of Excellence in the Teaching of Clinical Medicine.” This award is given for excellence in clinical teaching. It was established in honor of Dr. Bloomfield, who was Chair of the Department of Medicine from 1926-1954, by friends, colleagues and former students at Stanford in recognition of his reputation as a gifted teacher.
