Hospital Medicine faculty and staff share a spirit of lifelong learning to drive excellence in patient care, research, and teaching. Our division invests in educational programs and efforts to ensure our faculty and staff attain the skills and tools needed to catalyze innovations in clinical care, research, and education.  

Our weekly Hospital Medicine Grand Rounds (HMGR) is a cornerstone of our continuing education activities. We feature guest speakers locally as well as nationally to address an array of comprehensive topics to advance collective knowledge and practices. Previous sessions have included: clinical updates, journal club, leadership skills, DEI and advocacy, mastering clinical teaching, as well as clinical case discussions. HMGR is an engaging platform for our community to learn, connect, innovate, and stay at the forefront of hospital medicine.

Monthly Morbidity, Mortality, and Improvement (MMI) Conference

Our monthly Morbidity, Mortality, and Improvement (MMI) conference is an integral part of our professional development efforts. Hospital medicine faculty across all sections present at MMI, with invited multi-disciplinary discussants across the Department of Medicine and Stanford Health Care institution. The conference provides a respectful and supportive forum for shared learning, collaborative analysis of complex clinical scenarios, and discuss improvement opportunities. This transparency and reflection fosters a robust culture of clinical excellence, quality and safety, while promoting QI skills in identifying problems, performing a root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.

Faculty Education Resources

The Division of Hospital Medicine, Department of Medicine, and University generously support educational and professional development opportunities. Annual professionalism and STAP funds can be used towards: course tuition, conference registration and travel, textbooks, and other activities related to career development.
