The progression of human embryo development in vitro.
The purpose of this course is to understand and learn the basic skills in development and differentiation of human gametes (oocyte/sperm) and pre-implantation embryos by lecture and hands-on laboratory training.
The participants will be taught the principle biology background of the development of gametes and pre-implantation embryos in the lecture. In the lab, the participants will use human immature oocytes that are not suitable for reproduction purpose for in vitro maturation (IVM), in vitro fertilization (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and in vitro culture (IVC). The trainees will learn the molecular technique to study RNA and protein expression using oocytes and embryos. Also, we will demonstrate the imaging system to analyze the oocyte/embryo development. Due to the limited number of materials (human oocyte/sperm), animal materials may also be used.
