Research Area: Speech in Noise

Our research focuses on how individuals with hearing loss adapt to their impairment, and what can be done to help them communicate more effectively.  We are particularly interested in the difficulties many individuals face with understanding speech in background noise.  In our research we develop new tools to better characterize and diagnose these deficits, with an emphasis on machine learning and artificial intelligence applications. We are also interested in understanding the many ways that hearing loss can impact the lives of individuals, including the risk of cognitive decline, and the presence of tinnitus.
