Looking Back At ARO Midwinter Meeting 2020

Now that we are in the era of isolation and quarantine, it is nice to look back to a time when SICHL scientists were able to mingle with top hearing loss researchers from around the world at the Association for Research in Otolaryngology’s (ARO) 2020 Midwinter Meeting (MWM). Many topics were covered at the conference, reflecting the breadth of research conducted in the field of otolaryngology. Balance, facial-plastic surgery, regenerative medicine, nasal and oropharyngeal pathology, and clinical trials were just some of the topics touched on. Clinicians and scientists had a chance to meet their longtime collaborators in person to discuss the future of otolaryngology research.

The 2020 conference was a boon for hearing loss research. SICHL researchers and all 8 SICHL faculty presented 37 unique podium talks or posters. These projects were presented in symposia on topics including Gene Therapeutic Approaches for Hearing Loss, Cochlear Mechanics, Gene & Drug Delivery into the Inner Ear, Plasticity Following Hearing Loss, Hair Cell Fate, Stereocilia Dynamics, Hair Bundles and Mechanotransduction, Age-Related Hearing Loss, Inner Ear Therapeutics, and more! The hearing loss field is tackling the problem from a variety of different angles, both to better understand a variety of hearing loss pathologies and make advances in treatment.
