Lesson 2 - Bust the Aging Myths

Myth #2 - You can’t teach an old dog new tricks

The less people are challenged, the less they can learn and perform. However, it's important to know that older people can, and do, learn new things. The fear of age related mental loss is often exaggerated and simply wrong.

Research shows that the pace of learning and the conditions for successful learning may be different in older adults than in younger people. As we get older, we learn better with fewer distractions, so we need to prioritize and focus on one thing at a time.

As we will discuss in the next lesson, a key feature of strong mental function in later years is regular physical activity.
