Lesson 2 - Bust the Aging Myths
Myth #1 - To be old is to be sick
This is a false statement. New research from Stanford University and other research centers shows that older Americans are generally healthy. Thus, living longer does NOT mean living with illness and disability.
Researchers found that people who maintain good health habits through mid-life and beyond - such as not smoking, keeping weight in control, and exercising regularly -not only live longer, but also postpone even minimal disability by almost a decade compared to those with poor health habits. Thus, much of your health is within your control! It's worth the effort to keep up good habits and start new healthy behaviors.
