Stanford-HBMC Summer Program
The Stanford-HBMC Summer Program creates an immersive experience in Stanford Medicine’s unique academic culture, welcoming HBMC medical students and faculty to our research environment and encouraging collaboration between institutions.
The engagement of trainees from (HBMC’s) builds upon the pilot launched by Presence (a Center at Stanford Medicine) and the Department of Medicine, under the leadership of Dr. Abraham Verghese and Sonoo Thadaney Israni in 2017. The Stanford-HBMC Summer Program expectations:
- • 8-week, full-time, on-campus research program
- • Rising second-year medical students from Charles Drew University College of Medicine, Howard University College of Medicine, Meharry Medical College, and Morehouse School of Medicine are matched with Stanford Medicine faculty mentors for a bi-directional research experience
- • Program events allow Stanford-HBMC mentees to network with residency program directors and residents as well as partake in CV/resume workshops
- • Mentees receive a stipend
HBMC Summer Research Program
The Historically Black Medical Colleges (HBMC) Summer Research Program builds on Stanford Medicine’s already successful partnership with Meharry Medical College to include medical students from all four HBMC (Howard University College of Medicine, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Charles R. Drew University of Medicine) and expand it to include a visiting faculty exchange program. The HBMC Summer Research Program creates an immersive experience in Stanford Medicine’s unique academic culture, welcoming HBCU medical students and faculty to our research environment and encouraging collaboration between the institutions.
