Biosciences PhD Graduation Reception

Graduating students from Biosciences PhD programs during the 2023-24 academic year are invited to join Sheri M. Krams, Senior Associate Dean for Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs, and the Stanford Medicine Alumni Association for a celebratory reception. Eligible graduates will receive an invitation via email by mid-May 2024; RSVP is required.

Stanford Baccalaureate

Baccalaureate at Stanford is a multifaith celebratory gathering for graduating seniors, graduate students, and professional students, as well as their families and friends. Tickets are not required.

This student-led commemoration acknowledges the spiritual contribution to the education of the whole person, organized under the auspices of the Office for Religious Life (ORL). In addition to lively music from culturally diverse backgrounds, the program includes readings from different communities and perspectives. Collectively, the program represents the wide range of religious traditions represented within the ORL by over 30 organizations of Stanford Associated Religions (SAR).

Keynote Speaker

Abraham Verghese, MD, MACP

Linda R. Meier and Joan F. Lane Provostial Professor

Abraham Verghese, MD, MACP, is Professor and Linda R. Meier and Joan F. Lane Provostial Professor, and Vice Chair for the Theory and Practice of Medicine at the Stanford School of Medicine. He is also an award-winning author of fiction and nonfiction, including the bestselling novels “Cutting for Stone” and “The Covenant of Water.”  A passionate advocate of the medical humanities and an ardent supporter of bedside medicine, Verghese is founder and director of the PRESENCE center at Stanford and leader of the school’s Beside Medicine Program, which includes Stanford 25, an innovative program focused on teaching advanced physical exam skills. For his contributions to the arts, Verghese received the Heinz Award in 2014; and in 2015, he was awarded the National Humanities Medal, presented by President Barack Obama. Verghese is also a recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship for his outstanding work and exceptional promise.

Stanford University Commencement

Stanford Medicine faculty and graduates are encouraged to attend Stanford's 132nd Commencement ceremony on Sunday, June 18, in Stanford Stadium. Philanthropist, businesswoman, and global advocate for women and girls, Melinda French Gates will be the 2024 Commencement speaker.

No tickets are required.
