Health Care Administration, Leadership, and Management Fellowship

The mission of Stanford Health Care (SHC) is to combine “clinical care, research, and education to advance the understanding and practice of medicine” to provide “compassionate, coordinated care personalized for the unique needs of every patient”. SHC serves a large community that extends beyond the Bay Area and includes a diverse patient population with varying needs. This was the case before the Covid pandemic but became even more apparent with the start of the pandemic. With the start of the pandemic, the need for physician administrators became even more apparent. Individuals to bridge the gap between patient care and operationalizing healthcare while advocating for patients are needed to ensure the safety and well-being of both patients and healthcare workers.

The primary aim of the fellowship is to develop future leaders in healthcare administration, leadership, and management. Fellows will be introduced to real-life challenges in health care and equipped with the knowledge and tools to address them at an institutional level. Using their clinical knowledge and training, fellows will learn how to leverage that training to promote safe, efficient, and effective healthcare. The goal will be to learn how to obtain, analyze, and leverage information in the healthcare sector.

The goal is to train fellows who will apply this knowledge to successfully lead healthcare systems in any area of their choosing. This will require a thorough understanding of the needs of the communities that are being served as well as successful strategies to gain support from stakeholders and manage the challenges at hand. The fellows will be included in major decision-making processes to understand the underlying thought process and different management styles.
