Qualified Bilingual Staff (QBS) Program
The Qualified Bilingual Staff (QBS) program is a language assessment tool for bilingual physicians and Advanced Practice Providers at Stanford Health Care. It gives the necessary credentials required to allow clinicians who wish to use their non-English language skills to assist limited English proficient (LEP) patients during their regular clinical duties.
Successful completion earns you a QBS sticker on your Stanford ID badge, identifying you as qualified to communicate with patients in that language.
Why It Matters
- Ensures patient safety by validating language proficiency.
- Supports language-concordant care, improving trust, satisfaction, and outcomes for LEP patients.
- Helps fulfill legal and institutional requirements for equitable care.
