    Spotlight: Dr. Aderinsola Aderonmu

    This past July, Dr. Aderinsola Aderonmu, a 3rd year surgical resident at Stanford, was selected to accompany Dr. Gregg Adams, a general surgeon at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, to Guatemala for a week. During her time there, they were able to provide more than 50 free operations to people in need.

    Last Friday, August 29, fellows from across the department came together for their annual Balance in Life retreat. This year’s event took place at Huddart Park in San Mateo.

    Dr. Knowlton Selected to Serve on NIH ONHS Study Section

    After serving as an ad hoc reviewer for the past two years, Dr. Lisa Knowlton was selected as a Standing Member of the National Institutes of Health Organization and Delivery of Health Services Study Section (ODHS) for Healthcare Delivery and Methodologies Integrated Review Group (HDM), Center for Scientific Review (CSR). Her term extends through 2029.

    Dr. Kristan Staudenmayer Will Be Next COT Chair

    Dr. Staudenmayer assumes leadership of the ACS COT in March 2026.

    Tennakoon to serve on PCORI panel

    Dr. Lakshika Tennakoon will serve as a scientific reviewer on the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Addressing Violence and Trauma panel. Her research expertise in trauma and intimate partner violence will provide invaluable perspective in evaluating PCORI grant applications under review. Tennakoon will undergo PCORI scientific reviewer training in preparation for this task; she hopes this insider knowledge will be a helpful resource for the department.

    Drs. Dawes, Espinosa Receive SCI Community Impact Award

    Drs. Aaron Dawes and Patricia Rodriguez Espinosa are recipients of the 2025 Stanford Community Impact Research Cancer Health Equity Challenge Award from the Stanford Cancer Institute (SCI). The $100,000 in funding will support their project “Advocacy, Partnership, Outreach, and Yielding Optimized care for oncology patients (APOYO): A community health worker intervention for Latinx colorectal cancer patients” over the next two years.

    Stanford’s General Surgery Residency Program, led by Dr. Aaron Dawes, has announced a new Robotic Surgery Curriculum that includes a pre-console curriculum for PGY1s and 2s.
