Biostatistician

Can you describe a challenging project you tackled and aced? What made it so rewarding?

"Recently I worked on a multi-site observational study involving almost ten hospitals. Our team coordinated with each site on properly collecting data, navigating data use agreements, and securely transferring data to us. Due to the complexity of data use agreements and data collection, it was over six months before we were able to receive data from all sites. Once all data was received, I ran statistical analyses to assess the research question. In addition to descriptive statistics, mixed-effects models were run to account for heterogeneity between sites. It was incredibly rewarding to see all of the pieces come together – from collaboration with different hospitals to a rigorous statistical analysis – and to contribute to results that can help to inform surgical care on a broad scale. I’m lucky to work with such a wonderful team!"

What are you most passionate about outside of work?

"Outside of work, I love to run and spend time with my family. One of my favorite things is taking my daughter out in the running stroller – she’s already joined my husband and me for many races around the Bay Area. Running has been a huge part of my life for the past 10 years and sharing it with her has made it even more meaningful."

What’s a fun fact about yourself that most people wouldn’t know?

"A fun fact about me that most people wouldn’t know is that I’ve run quite a few trail ultramarathons. I love the challenge and adventure of long-distance trail running, I feel lucky to live in the Bay Area where amazing trails are right in our backyard. I had run a few marathons and thought it was impossible to go any farther – until I decided to run 30 miles for my 30th birthday. Turns out, it is possible!"
