Program Overview

Welcome to the Stanford University Gastroenterology Fellowship Program!

The Stanford University Gastroenterology Fellowship Program is designed to provide the knowledge necessary to prepare physicians for careers in academic medicine and clinical practice. Fellows master the cognitive and procedural skills required to function as a consultant in gastroenterology, hepatology, and endoscopy. Utilizing the resources of Stanford, the program inspires scholarship and builds a robust foundation in clinical reasoning, investigative research and leadership. We acknowledge that each fellow has their own unique background, special interests and career goals. Our aim is to meet our fellow’s personal needs so they may reach their full potential for success.

All fellows develop the clinical and procedural skills required to practice gastroenterology and meet all ACGME and ABIM requirements. The program provides a broad range of experiences with diverse patient populations through its training sites at Stanford University Medical Center, VA Palo Alto Health Care System, and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.

Our personalized and innovative educational curriculum ensures professional and personal growth in many possible directions: basic or translational science, patient oriented research, bio-technological innovation, or cutting-edge clinical practice and medical education. The program supports fellows in these areas with customized internal tracks for Career Scientists, Translational and Patient Oriented Researchers, and Clinical Educators. The NIH T32 grant supports promising candidates towards independent research careers. Fellows also have unique opportunities to complete a Masters in Epidemiology & Clinical Research, Masters in Health Services Research, or a BioDesign Fellowship. Additional sub-specialty fellowship opportunities in advanced endoscopy, esophageal diseases and transplant hepatology are also available at Stanford.

On behalf of the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, we thank you for your interest in our fellowship program and invite you to explore further!

Best wishes,
