Wellness: Fostering Leadership, Insights, and Connection

As health and wellness continue to be a division priority, we are proud of several recent accomplishments.

Dr. Sanjiv Chopra

We kicked off wellness with visiting professor, Dr. Sanjiv Chopra, who shared his clinical expertise and guidance to faculty, fellows, and residents across the School of Medicine. His Medical Grand Rounds presentation: Two Most Important Days: Reflections on Lasting Happiness and Living with Purpose was well received and prompted cross divisional connections. Through his talk to the division , Exemplarily Leadership: Lessons from History and Contemporary Times, Dr. Chopra shared valuable insights and wisdom on leadership. Faculty and fellows deepened their clinical knowledge through his presentation, Clinical Challenges in Hepatology,

To promote resilience and connection, we hosted a Narrative Medicine Workshop. This unique event explored the vital connection between storytelling and medical practice, focusing on the physician’s inner self.  Led by Divya Mehrish, an award-winning writer and senior at Stanford University with personal experience with ulcerative colitis, participants learned from her as both a writer and a patient. Division members participated in meaningful discussion, connected with colleagues, and engaged in writing exercises to improve personal insights and wellness.

In the spirit of connection, we came together to during several social events, including our faculty and fellows BBQ, and commensality groups. The BBQ allowed us to celebrate the beginning of the new school year and to welcome the fellows over delicious food and fun games. Commensality groups continue to serve as a way for our faculty to deepen relationships and to enhance camaraderie within the division.
