Professional Interests: Pediatric Rehabilitation

Personal Interests: Travel, Reading, Cooking, Eating, and the Purple&Gold!

Fun Facts: One of my favorite travel memories is watching the sea turtles hatch on the Tanzanian coast. 


Matthew Kaufman, MD

Hometown: Thousand Oaks, CA

Why I chose Stanford PM&R: I chose Stanford PM&R because of the great training in both inpatient and outpatient settings, unparalleled sports coverage as well as research opportunities and above all a chance to live in the bay area to be closer to my family. It's the perfect blend of training, opportunity and lifestyle!

Fun Facts: I have a diabetic dog named Edison who got her name because her mom got electrocuted during labor. She still hasn't quite figured out the concept of being a sled dog yet but we're working on it.

Paul Mgbam, MD

Why I chose Stanford PM&R: I was impressed with the quality of training & faculty during my away rotation and the diverse patient population. The residents, faculty, and staff were all so kind and made it easy to see myself enjoying residency at Stanford. The alumni from the program pursuing diverse fields in PM&R was another draw. Being a Bay Area native with the opportunity to train near home was also very exciting.

Fun Facts: I’m a former track & field / cross country collegiate athlete, I’m half Caucasian and half Indian, I lived in India for two years as a religious volunteer.


Hye-Jin Yun, MD

Why I chose Stanford PM&R: I am grateful to be a part of a program that aligns with my vision of restoring function and movement through interdisciplinary teamwork, innovation, leadership, research, and advocacy. I believe that Stanford's PM&R Program provides an unmatched opportunity to explore my diverse interests and further nurture my niche interest in performing arts medicine (Stanford is one of the few programs in the country that offers exposure to this field!) Additionally, I really loved the dynamic resident culture and the incredibly supportive and welcoming environment.

Personal Interests: All things Broadway & musical theater, dancing, running (9 half-marathons and Olympic-distance triathlon!), swimming, social media, broadcast journalism, traveling, connecting with people, event planning, doing anything that gets me moving outdoors in the sun!

Fun Facts: I performed in two world-premiere musical productions before high school and was on-stage for the 72nd Annual Tony Awards in NYC!
