Our team focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of
physical and psychological trauma like traumatic brain injury (TBI),
post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and related health outcomes such
as sleep and pain.
Dr. Ansgar Furst leads several federally funded
research projects including an ongoing VA RR&D clinical trial
investigating the efficacy of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia
(CBT-I) in patients with a history of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI)
and a VA CSR&D neuroimaging project investigating the role of the
brainstem in modulating sleep and pain in Gulf War Illness.
Our lab uses a combination of advanced neuroimaging
techniques, clinical diagnostic and treatment tools with the goal to
improve the health outcomes in veterans.
Dr. Furst and colleagues recently co-edited a special issue in Frontiers of Neurology focusing on Advances in Diagnosis and Treatment of TBI-Induced Neurodegeneration and Cognitive Deficits.
