Speakers
Dr. Linda M. Boxer
Dr. Linda M. Boxer is the Vice Dean of Stanford University School of Medicine and the Stanley McCormick Memorial Professor in the School of Medicine. Dr. Boxer obtained her M.D. and Ph.D. degrees at Stanford University. She was an intern and resident in internal medicine at Stanford where she also completed a hematology/oncology fellowship. Dr. Boxer joined the Stanford faculty in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology, and held a position at the Department of Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System.
Her laboratory investigated the mechanisms of deregulated expression of oncogenes by translocation into the immunoglobulin locus in B cells lymphomas. Dr. Boxer’s clinical expertise is in hematology malignancies, and she serves as an attending physician on the inpatient hematology consult service. She was director of the Clinical Investigator Pathway (the ABIM research pathway) in the Department of Medicine and the hematology fellowship director for eight years. Dr. Boxer trained and mentored many physicians and physician scientists during this time and helped with their development into independent investigators.
Dr. Boxer served as Chief of the Division of Hematology for 13 years. She was Interim Chair of the Department of Medicine for 2 years, and Senior Vice Chair for 1 year. Dr. Boxer was appointed Vice Dean of the School of Medicine in September 2013.
Brian Hoffmeister
Brian Hoffmeister is the Senior Director of Faculty Compensation and Assistant Dean for the Stanford University School of Medicine. Brian has led the School of Medicine Faculty Compensation team since September 2018 and under his leadership, the school has implemented salary scales for all academic departments to ensure salary equity along with many process improvement ideas. Brian’s career with Stanford began as the Controller for the School of Medicine from 2007 to 2015. Other professional achievements include leadership positions with Time Warner, Tenet Healthcare, Emory University and Saint Louis University. He has a degree in accounting with more than 30 years financial healthcare experience.
Allen Metzenberg
Allen Metzenberg is the Associate Dean and Chief Financial Officer for Stanford School of Medicine and came to Stanford in May 2022. In this role, he oversees the School of Medicine’s financial affairs.
Prior to his arrival at Stanford, Allen worked at Oregon Health Science University (OHSU) for 19 years holding various roles. As OHSU’s Senior Associate Dean for Finance and Chief Financial Officer, he provided strategic financial guidance for OHSU’s School of Medicine. His responsibilities included managing the school’s budget, setting financial priorities, and working with the dean and departmental leadership to ensure high financial performance across the school.
Allen grew up in Portland, OR and has an MBA and B.S. in Economics from Portland State University.
