Getting to know others in your field and complementary research areas is essential to your career, although the idea of networking makes most people uncomfortable. Our culture, and others, perceive many successes to be the result of being in the right place at the right time, or knowing the right people.  In terms of grant applications, forming research collaborations and working with the right people can form that all important final step to success. In this session Rania Sanford Ed.D, from the Faculty Development and Diversity Office will facilitate an informative and interactive discussion of what is often described as ‘networking’.  Through reframing, re-orienting, and leveraging strategies, the discussion will offer tactics to cultivate productive professional relationships that could help you advance in a fruitful long career. The session will leave you with practical suggestions for the use of social media, face-to-face interactions and the many indirect ways of connecting with others.

Rania Sanford has been the Assistant Vice Provost for Faculty Development and Diversity since 2013.  In this role, she oversees the professional and leadership development portfolio of programs for faculty across Stanford's 7 schools, and works closely with faculty on career transition, coaching for success, and inclusive practices. Rania's interests span leadership, organizational change, international education, and adult development. Rania has a BA in Journalism and MA in Communication, with emphasis on intercultural communication, an EdD in Organizational Leadership, and is an MBTI Certified Practitioner®.
