Paul Yock, John Simpson and Kate Garrett, three distinguished leaders in the field of medical technology with interlinked mentoring relationships speak about their mentors, the vital role of the mentee, how to approach a mentor, and issues of underrepresentation in medical entrepreneurship. John Simpson invented the over-the-wire catheter whose entrepreneurship redefined interventional cardiology; Prof. Paul Yock developed a series of devices that revolutionized angioplasty and founded the Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign to train others in health technology innovation; and Kate Garrett, a former Stanford Biodesign Innovation Fellow founded Ciel Medical out of the program and currently serves as Assistant Director of the Biodesign Innovation Fellowship and as a managing partner at Sonder Capital. The conversation is led by Leslie Berlin, historian of the Silicon Valley Archives and author most recently of Troublemakers: Silicon Valley's coming of age (Simon & Schuster, 2017).
