Women Faculty Networking: Salary Equity Update

Please join us for a panel session on Faculty Salary Equity with special guests: Vice Dean, Linda Boxer, Assistant Dean & Senior Director, Faculty Compensation, Brian Hoffmeister, and Associate Dean and Chief Financial Officer, Brian Metzenberg. The session will center around compensation practices in the current environment.

Dr. Linda M. Boxer, MD, PhD
Dr. Linda M. Boxer is the Vice Dean of Stanford University School of Medicine and the Stanley McCormick Memorial Professor in the School of Medicine. Dr. Boxer obtained her M.D. and Ph.D. degrees at Stanford University. She was an intern and resident in internal medicine at Stanford where she also completed a hematology/oncology fellowship. Dr. Boxer joined the Stanford faculty in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology, and held a position at the Department of Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System.
Her laboratory investigated the mechanisms of deregulated expression of oncogenes by translocation into the immunoglobulin locus in B cell lymphomas. Dr. Boxer’s clinical expertise is in hematology malignancies. She was director of the Clinical Investigator Pathway (the ABIM research pathway) in the Department of Medicine and the hematology fellowship director for eight years. Dr. Boxer trained and mentored many physicians and physician scientists during this time and helped with their development into independent investigators.
Dr. Boxer served as Chief of the Division of Hematology for 13 years. She was Interim Chair of the Department of Medicine for 2 years, and Senior Vice Chair for 1 year. Dr. Boxer was appointed Vice Dean of the School of Medicine in September 2013.
Brian Hoffmeister
Brian Hoffmeister serves as the Senior Director of Faculty Compensation and Assistant Dean at the Stanford University School of Medicine, where he has led the Faculty Compensation team since September 2018. Under his strategic leadership, the School has implemented standardized salary scales across all academic departments; advancing equity, transparency, and consistency in faculty compensation. He has also spearheaded numerous process improvements, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and administrative best practices. Brian’s tenure at Stanford began in 2007, when he was appointed Controller for the School of Medicine, a role he held until 2015. His career spans over three decades in financial leadership within the healthcare and academic sectors. Prior to joining Stanford, he held senior positions at prominent organizations including Time Warner, Tenet Healthcare, Emory University, and Saint Louis University. He holds a degree in accounting and brings more than 30 years of experience in financial management, with a deep focus on healthcare and academic institutions.
Allen Metzenberg
Allen Metzenberg is the Associate Dean and Chief Financial Officer for Stanford School of Medicine and arrived at Stanford in 2022. In this role, he oversees the School of Medicine’s financial affairs. Prior to Stanford, he dedicated over 19 years at Oregon Health & Science (OHSU) in various finance roles including Senior Associate Dean and Chief Financial Officer for the OHSU School of Medicine.
