Master of Science Degree in
Epidemiology and Clinical Research
Core Requirements
Except for EPI 251, all program core courses (EPI 225/226/259/261/262) must be taken for a letter grade.
Students must complete the following core courses:
Epidemiologic Methods (Core courses in epidemiologic methods and biostatistics are ordinarily taken during the first year of study).
EPI 225: Introduction to Epidemiologic and Clinical Research Methods
EPI 226: Intermediate Epidemiologic and Clinical Research Methods
EPI 251: Design and Conduct of Clinical Trials (recommended but not required for co-terminal students and students in designated tracks)
Biostatistics
EPI 259: Introduction to Probability and Statistics for Epidemiology
EPI 261: Intermediate Biostatistics: Analysis of Discrete Data (BIOMEDIN 233, STATS 261)
EPI 262: Intermediate Biostatistics: Regression, Prediction, Survival Analysis (STATS 262)
Research Seminars (three quaters; not offered Summer quarter)
EPI 236: Epidemiology Research Seminar
Please note that only 3 units of seminar can be counted towards the 45 unit MS requirement.
Research Conduct
MED 255: Responsible Conduct of Research (may be waived for students who are listed as principal investigator for a Stanford-IRB research protocol)
Master Thesis
EPI 399: Graduate Research (12 units over at least two quarters)

Full time graduate students take 8-10 units. Graduate education at Stanford is a full-time commitment requiring full-time enrollment, typically at least 8 units during Autumn, Winter, and Spring quarters. Enrolling in more than 10 units in a quarter will lead to additional tuition charges.
**3 units of EPI 236 required during your enrollment
