Congratulations to the 2017 Inspiring Change Leadership Award Recipients
Shannon Monahan
Research Analyst, Office of Postdoctoral Affairs
Shannon Monahan’s analytical talents, attention to detail, thorough understanding of arcane systems, and ability to work with a wide range of people have made her an immeasurably effective change agent. Monahan’s impact has reached postdoctoral scholars, in the form of the work she did in establishing and administering the hardship fund; she helped departmental administrators through analysis and systems changes to offset the unwieldly, time-consuming, error-prone tuition payment system and more recently through her dedicated push for the GFS redesign, which now supports postdocs in a smooth and intuitive manner. Monahan’s work affects faculty and the reputation of Stanford by ensuring that we have quality data, a thorough understanding of our population, and the best platform from which to advocate for our constituencies. Monahan’s talents have drawn national attention through professional organizations and the National Science Foundation annual survey (for which she is the institutional collaborator). In an institution that values data, information, continuous improvement, and collaboration, Monahan sets a unique and powerful standard.
