Pediatric Emergency Medicine

Innovations in Child-centered Care

Stanford Pediatric Emergency Medicine is committed to research, innovation, and child-centered care that creates an atmosphere of comfort for our most vulnerable population.

Our pediatric ED is separate from our main ED, in a space we call an "ouchless ED." Innovative treatments include:

  • topical anesthetics or sprays that reduce needle pain
  • intranasal opioids and anesthesia instead of IV
  • skin adhesives instead of sutures

A Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, we offer comprehensive 24-hour emergency care that includes direct access to world-ranked pediatric specialists.

Our physicians also serve as faculty as part of the renowned Stanford School of Medicine, representing some of the most innovative minds in medicine, science and research, trained in leading-edge best practices.

We are proud to train the next generation of pediatric emergency phsyicians. Our  ACGME-approved fellows are focused on leading-edge research in pediatric emergency care. Learn more about fellowships.

Program Director Bernard Dannenberg, MD shares pediatric EM best practices with the 14th DGINA Kongress in Berlin.
