  • October 14 2016: Elias and Sonnenburg awarded ChEM-H Seed Grant
    The Elias and Sonnenburg labs were selected for Seed Grant funding as part of the Stanford's ChEM-H program's Molecular Analysis and Engineering of the Human Microbiome initiative. This collaborative project titled "Proteomic tools to discover non-host GI antigens presented to the adaptive immune system", seeks to discover microbe- and diet-derived antigens that shape our bodies' immune responses.

  • July 9 2016: Welcome to the tiniest member of the Elias Lab
    After conducting an in-depth interview we welcome a promising new lab member, Harper Paz. She comes highly regarded, and will continue to be jointly advised by her prior mentor, Nevada Valentine. While she doesn't have all that much experience to speak of, she's already demonstrated remarkable potential in grasping new things, and communicating her needs. She's expressed particular interest focusing on a gut microbiome project.

    Microbiome proteomics continues to fascinate us and others, as documented in the ASBMB blog
  • August 7, 2013: Manuscript "Host-centric proteomics of stool: A novel strategy focused on intestinal responses to the gut microbiota" accepted for publication in Molecular and Cellular Proteomics
    Authors: Josh Lichtman, Angela Marcobal, Justin Sonnenburg, and Josh Elias
    As one reviewer put it, "Brilliant paper and very important to the developing field of microbiomics. I think this will be a seminal paper if the microbiologists bother to read it. Analyzing the effect of the intestinal bacteria on the host protein output is very novel." Of course, we completely agree.
