About the Mass Spectrometry Platform
The Elias Lab develops and applies methods for large scale proteome characterization to address emerging biomedical challenges. The growing field of proteomics has the lofty goal of characterizing the proteins in any isolated complex, subcellular compartment, cultured cell line or tissue. We aim to expand this goal in three fundamental areas:
- Measuring the interactions between our gut microbiomes, our diet, and ourselves.
- Surveying immune responses to cancer, infection, and allergy.
- Developing unrestricted search methods that rapidly identify any protein, from any organism, with any sequence modification.
Our lab is accomplishing these goals by developing new approaches towards protein isolation, mass spectrometry, and computational biology.
