Welcome to the Eisenberg Lab

A major focus of the laboratory is to develop novel methods to improve a man’s reproductive and sexual function. Ongoing research includes:

  1. Intratesticular platelet rich plasma injections
  2. Male genital device trials to improve sexual function

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is a concentration of platelets in plasma that has been FDA approved and increasingly used to support tissue repair and growth in orthopedics, plastic surgery, and dermatology, but has been minimally investigated to date in the context of testicular function. Platelets contain granules that store large numbers of growth factors and cytokines released upon activation at the site of injury. These factors are critical in activation of the cascade involved in tissue repair such as smooth muscle cells and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), and regulating angiogenesis. Our goal is to determine the utility in augmenting testicular function including sperm and testosterone production.

Over half of all men over the age of 40 have some form of sexual dysfunction.  While current therapies are effective for many men, there is a sizable number of men for whom current therapies are ineffective or intolerable. The lab currently has multiple devices in pilot testing to augment men’s function.
