1. Complete the online Data and Device Attestation form. 

2. Register devices with Stanford University. Registration enables device management and encryption and allows access to the Stanford network on campus

3. Enroll in Microsoft Entra + Intune. Stanford 0365 applications (Outlook and MSOffice) cannot be accessed without enrollment in Entra and Intune. Enrollment is a 3 step process over 24 hours: Setup Login, Connect Devices, Verify Connected Devices.

4. If you plan on purchasing a new device prior to your arrival, please review the data security policies in detail to ensure the new device can comply.

5. Once you have completed the above steps, verify your status.

As part of continuity planning in light of the Canvas outage that occurred on May 7th, 2026, we recommend following the steps below to help minimize interruptions to teaching and learning during potential future service disruptions.

We'll continue to monitor Canvas and main campus communications and share information as soon as we have it. Instructure, the Canvas vendor has put up an FAQ page to help answer some questions.  Please feel free to reach out to EdTech (medcanvas@stanford.edu) with any other questions or concerns.

Recommendations for Students:

• Use the Module page's “Download Course Content” feature Modules >> Export Course Content (downloads published, pages, files, module structure, Discussion prompts, Syllabus content, Assignment instructions).
• Bookmark direct links to course work media and Lecture Media pages
• Make sure to sync your Canvas calendar to Outlook
• Be aware of alternate communication channels (like email/Slack) that may be used during an outage
