Classroom Technologies

The Instruction Design and Production team applies technology solutions that facilitate a positive learning experience for students, and empowers faculty to integrate high-quality, efficient, and effective teaching. Our vision is to transform Stanford Medicine by acting as a catalyst for the adoption of evidence-based, emerging, and engaging educational technology solutions, and to be a leader in the academic community by sharing our best practices.

Stanford Medicine offers free video recording for courses and events in our spaces using our automated recording system. All videos are delivered via a SUNet authenticated webpage as streaming video, a downloadable picture in picture video file (.mp4 format) and an audio file (mp3 format). Custom media publication strategies, including public release, may be possible on request.

All events and courses interested in video capture should contact the Mescheduling team via Classroom Reservations and Features or via email at medscheduler@stanford.edu. Once capture is scheduled, the presenter should complete the Stanford Speaker Release.

Each course or event that requests capture will have a dedicated lecture media page created prior to the first scheduled capture. Media links for each scheduled capture will feed through to the lecture media page within 3-4 hours after the scheduled end of recording.

For Stanford Medicine courses and Stanford University electives that have a Canvas course, the lecture media page will be available as a link in the right-hand course navigation.

For courses that do not have a Canvas course setup or for special events, such as conferences and Grand Rounds, a direct link to the lecture media page is emailed directly to the indvidual that requests capture for the event.

If you require the link to a capture, please submit a HelpSU request containing the name of the event, the date and time it took place, and the location that the event was held.

Educational Technology supports Poll Everywhere as our cloud-based polling system. Learners use their personal devices (phones, laptops, tablets,) to respond to the polls. No additional hardware is required. You can create your Poll Everywhere account by visiting pollev.stanford.edu and logging in with your SUNet. You can visit polleverywhere.com/videos for tutorials on getting started. For additional support and training, submit a help ticket and an EdTech member will be in touch. 

As an alternative, the Lane Library has a set of polling devices available for 24 hour checkout to be used at any of your events. The set comes with a USB polling receiver, a hand-held polling receiver, 20 polling devices, and instructions and software, all packaged together in a convenient carrying case. Reservations for the system can be made by e- mailing lanecirculation@lists.stanford.edu or calling the service desk at 650-723-6831.

Faculty and Staff can gain access to a web-based tool to increase engagement in live class sessions and presentations. Nearpod gives instructors and presenters the ability to share their presentation onto student devices, receive immediate feedback, give real-time assessments, and view live learning analytics. It's a great tool to engage learners and actively integrate them into your lesson or presentation.
