Simon Levinson, MD
Simon grew up in and around New York City and moved to California to attend the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he obtained undergraduate degrees in both political philosophy and neuroscience. Simon then went on to attend the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. While a medical student he worked under the mentorship of Dr. Carlos Cepeda to investigate the electrophysiologic and cellular mechanisms underlying pediatric epilepsy. Additionally, under the mentorship of Dr. Ausaf Bari he created an MRI based structural atlas of the human brainstem that can be used during neurosurgical procedures.
Now here at Stanford, Simon is perusing a career in open and endovascular cerebrovascular neurosurgery and will remain at Stanford after neurosurgery residency for a two-year endovascular fellowship. Under the guidance of Dr. Jeremy Heit, he is investigating how the immune system is affected when someone has a stroke or bleeding in the brain. In addition, he is working to develop new ways to model stroke in order to help people recover after neurologic injury. Outside of medicine, Simon enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, going for hikes with their dog, traveling, cooking, listening to audiobooks, and running.
