About Dr. Kossler

Andrea Lora Kossler, MD, FACS, is Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Stanford University School of Medicine and Director of the Oculofacial Plastic, Reconstructive Surgery and Orbital Oncology Service at the Byers Eye Institute at Stanford. Dr. Kossler specializes in aesthetic oculofacial surgery, thyroid eye disease, orbital oncology, orbital surgery, and eyelid surgery. She is an expert at minimally invasive techniques to provider her patients with natural beautiful results. Dr. Kossler customizes treatment to each patient’s surgery goals and has developed a reputation as a “top doctor” in oculoplastic patient care. Andrea has been in practice for over 11 years and treats adults and children with oculoplastic conditions. 

Andrea is the Co-Director of the Thyroid Eye Disease Center at Stanford Hospital Center where she works together with an endocrinologist to provide patient centered care to patients diagnosed with thyroid eye disease. She is the Director of the Stanford Aesthetic Eye Surgery Center where she specializes in cosmetic surgery and aesthetic treatments of the eyelids and face.  Dr. Kossler is also the Co-Director of the Ocular and Orbital Oncology Center at the Stanford Hospital Center and specializes in orbital and eyelid cancers. Dr. Kossler’s research interests include the proteomic evaluation of inflammatory ocular surface and orbital diseases, modulation of neural reflexes via neurotization and neurostimulation, evaluating targeted therapies for cutaneous and orbital malignancy, and advancing therapies for thyroid eye disease.

Dr. Kossler has authored over 100 publications, abstracts and book chapters and is a national and international speaker on oculofacial plastic and orbital surgery. She graduated summa cum laude and valedictorian from the Georgetown School of Medicine and completed her ophthalmology residency and oculofacial plastic and orbital surgery fellowship at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Dr. Kossler was awarded the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) Marvin Quickert Thesis Award in 2013 and the ASOPRS Annual Research Award in 2015 for her work on neurostimulation for enhanced tear production. Andrea was the winner of the Women in Ophthalmology (WIO) 2017 Mentorship Award for her passion towards resident and fellow education. She was awarded the 2020 ASOPRS Outstanding Contribution Award for her contribution to the ASOPRS society. In 2022, Andrea won the WIO Emerging Leader Award. Dr. Kossler has received numerous Castle Connolly Top Doctors Awards.  She is the director for the WIO Mentorship Program, on the Board of Directors of WIO, and on the Executive Board for the LATINOUS Society. Dr. Kossler is an expert in oculofacial plastic surgery and orbital oncology and enjoys training the next generation of oculoplastic specialists.

Outside of work Andrea enjoys time with her husband, two daughters and dog Roxy.
