National Enrichment Program

DREAMS-CDTR is proud to have received a National Enrichment Program supplement entitled “Creating A Community of Practice to Promote Diabetes Translation Research in Health Equity and Increase the Diversity of the Diabetes Translation Research Workforce”.

This supplement centers around: 1) Creating an ESI ‘Community of Practice’ in Diabetes Translation and Health Equity Research, 2) Organizing and Conducting a National ESI Meeting on Health Equity in Diabetes Translation Research and Increasing the Diversity of the Diabetes Translation Workforce, and 3) Creating and Widely Disseminate Summary Materials from the National Meeting.

The National Enrichment Program (NEP) Conference

Participants attending the NEP conference on June 6, 2024 represented 35 ESIs and 18 faculty from across 23 institutions (CDTRs, HBCUs, an HSI & AANAPISI).

How to get your first major NIH award

The conference featured a panel presentation about how to get one's first major NIH award funded. The panel featured Drs. Katrina Serrano, Pamela Thornton and Rafael Gorospe from NIDDK, as well as three ESI’s who recently secured their first K01 or R01 award.

Fishbowl Activity

Each ESI received feedback on their 'Fishbowl' work in progress on the specific aims of their next NIH grant submission. A moderator was assigned for each group to keep time and ensure everyone had a chance to provide senior or peer mentoring feedback.
