Community Engagement

The Community Partnership Program strives to fulfill four pillars of community engagement that signify how we engage in our local community to advance health equity.

Our pillars of engagement are informed by organizational efforts including the Stanford Health Care Community Health & Partnership Program Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA); Stanford Health Care Integrated Strategic Plan; Department of Medicine Culture and Community Building, Wellness, and Quality efforts; and the Stanford Medicine Health Equity Education Initiative.

We aim to build many paths to engagement throughout these pillars including direct clinical service in the community, providing health talks and educational sessions, supporting quality improvement programs, and mentoring community-engaged learners.

Pillars of Engagement

Clinical Care & Capacity Building

We build capacity internally with Department of Medicine faculty, staff, and leadership, as well as with our external community partners, to support engagement in bi-directional, sustainable, community-centered projects that enhance health equity in the local community.

Bi-Directional Education

We act as a broker between community partners and Department of Medicine faculty and trainees to create bi-directional educational partnerships within the community. This can take many forms, and we welcome the opportunity to explore how we can collaborate with community partners to connect with learner hubs at Stanford.

Partnered Research & Evaluation

We collaborate internally and externally to support health equity and community-oriented research in the local community, including actively looking for ways to connect community-based organizations seeking technical support or evaluation partners. We also aim to support the dissemination of research findings in forums most useful to the community.

Policy & Advocacy Support

The Community Partnership Program focuses on enhancing local and national policy participation among Department of Medicine members. We support advocacy efforts to enhance health and access to health care services for all.
