Visiting Residents and Observerships

The Stanford Department of Dermatology offers visiting rotations to US/Canadian dermatology residents and observerships of 1-month in length to visiting faculty and international residents with the purpose of fostering academic development and collaboration.  In general, international medical students are not eligible for observerships within the Department of Dermatology except by specific request by Stanford faculty sponsor.

The goal of these visiting experiences is to provide the opportunity for Stanford dermatology faculty to teach, mentor, and collaborate with future and current leaders in patient care, scientific investigation, and education.

Please see below for the initial application requirements for each experience.  Any visiting experience is contigent upon approval by both the Stanford Department of Dermatology and Stanford Hospital Compliance/Stanford Office of Graduate Medical Education. 

 

Visiting Faculty Observership

Please complete initial Stanford Compliance screening to confirm eligibility prior to completing application below. A non-refundable application fee of $1000 is required for each application, if approved.*  Observerships may be no more than 1-month in length and can include only observership with the specific Stanford faculty member listed as faculty sponsor.

 

Application Components:

  • Personal statement: “Stanford dermatology strives to provide the opportunity to teach, mentor, and collaborate with current and future leaders in patient care, scientific investigation, and education by hosting outside trainees and faculty.  Please provide a 1-page statement of your career goals and how a rotation with Stanford dermatology will further these goals.”
  • Professional CV
  • Letter of Recommendation from department chair
  • Proposed rotation dates (may be no more than 1-month in length)

 

*Please note that application fee may be waived if financial hardship is demonstrated or at the request of the Stanford faculty sponsor.

Visiting US/Canada dermatology residents visiting rotation

A non-refundable application fee of $250 is required for each application.*

Resident trainees from US/Canada are not eligible for observership and are only eligible for a visiting rotation approved through the Stanford Office of Graduate Medical Education.  Rotation in clinics other than those of the Stanford faculty sponsor will approved only on a case-by-case basis.
