"My experience in the CVI Summer Research Program was unforgettable! Participating in the CVI summer research program allowed me to grow as both a student and as a researcher. Not only did the program strengthen my critical thinking and problem-solving skills, but it also helped me to develop new capabilities. "The main challenge that I faced was overcoming self-inflected academic pressure.  Such academic pressure often resulted in self-doubt about my abilities as both a student and a researcher. Oftentimes, as students, we can feel that we are not smart or capable enough to complete a task. What allowed me to overcome this challenge was re-centering my focus on my motivations and past accomplishments. Focusing on past accomplishments provided reassurance, strengthening my morale.  Knowing that as a student researcher, I could contribute to cardiovascular research that would improve health care, served as my biggest motivator."

"During my time in the Stanford CVI Summer Research Program, I learned many valuable lessons. The main thing I learned about myself as a researcher is that I am adaptable and resilient in the face of challenges.  As a student researcher, there are many times when we have to adapt our thinking or overcome challenges when “things don’t go as planned”. When faced with obstacles, a student researcher must strive to overcome them. In my pursuit to become more adaptable, I learned the importance of viewing unfamiliar assignments and challenges as an opportunity to grow.  This program enabled me to further develop a mindset that views new assignments or challenges, as an opportunity to learn and improve."

It not only solidified my interest in the field but also renewed my commitment to pursuing a career as a Physician Assistant. "I would advise prospective participants in this research program to make connections both inside and outside of their labs. The connections and friendships you make throughout this program can drastically enhance your experience in the program. I would also recommend building relationships with those who belong to different cultures, backgrounds, and colleges than your own. Building new relationships, with those from different cultures, schools, and backgrounds will aid your personal growth and development. If you take the opportunity, this program enables you to learn more about cultures and backgrounds different from those of your own. I not only recommend that you learn from others in your cohort, but I also recommend that you build meaningful friendships!
