Curriculum Management Systems
Administrator Systems: Course and class information is published in Explore Courses which is used by both students and staff for enrollment purposes and as a record of information for Stanford University. The course administrators manage course information to ensure relevance and accuracy through the systems below:
Axess: Used to update consistent course information (does not generally change year over year). Webform updates include:
· Status: signifies if a course is active or inactive (retired)
· Title: Long Course Title is published on the official transcript with student enrollment
· Long Description: published in Explore Courses to determine student enrollment, course record
· Minimum Units: least number of units for a variable unit course
· Maximum Units: largest number of units for a variable unit course
· Grading Basis: indicates the grading basis offered to enrolled students – see Grading Basis for MED course requirements
· Repeat for Credit: specifies whether a course is repeatable for credit
· Course Attributes: specifies the quarter offering for each course – used to add or remove quarterly scheduling
· Special Instructions: please include a summary of your updates
*Axess webforms require approval and will be updated in Explore Courses within one hour of approval.
CLSS/CPS/Course Leaf: Used to update quarterly class scheduling information:
· Status: controls the status of enrollment
o Active – enrollment is open to students
o Cancelled Section – will only be processed with zero enrollment
o Stop Further Enrollment – course is active but students will not be able to enroll
· Consent: controls whether permission numbers are required for enrollment
· Grading Basis: must be updated prior to the opening of enrollment
· Cross-list With: used to add cross-listed courses
· Instruction Mode:
o In Person: class must have been approved through SoM Education Restart
o Remote Asynchronous: learning that happens in real time; the instructor and students interact in a specific virtual place at a specific time
o Remote Synchronous: learning that happens based on the student schedule; the instructor provides the class materials such as readings, lectures and assignments using an online platform- offers flexibility for the student to access and complete necessary work.
o Independent Study: for INS and TGR classes
· Schedule Print: confirms course information will be published in Explore Courses
· Section Type: used to identify discussion sections for a class
· Link To: discussion sections must be linked to a lecture section, etc.
· Meet Frequency: enforces meeting patterns according to selection
· Instructor: used to add the primary and secondary instructor as well as TA information
o Instructor: select the relevant instructor/TA
o Role: select the appropriate title
- Primary instructor: Faculty with an appointment in the UTL, NTL, MCL, or CE lines. This does not include adjunct or affiliate faculty.
-Secondary instructor: all other titles, requires a primary instructor to be listed as well
-Grade proxy: receives grading access
-Teaching assistant
· Roster: select Approve
· Print: select for primary and secondary instructors – information will be printed on the official transcript
**If the relevant party is not listed under the drop down, they will need to be approved through Axess
-Update an existing instructor
· Room: used to indicate the room assignment for each class
· Remote: for all remote: asynchronous and remote: synchronous classes
· Specific room: Choose approved Med room from the drop down - room is not available in the drop down, contact medregistrar@stanford.edu for assistance
· No Room Assigned: For INS and TGR sections that do not have meeting patterns
· Schedule: indicates the meeting pattern (dates and times) for each class
