The Stanford CARE Seed Grant is an internal funding program from the Stanford Center for Asian Health Research and Education (CARE) that supports early-stage, innovative research focused on Asian and Asian American health. Its primary goal is to generate pilot data, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and launch new research projects that can lead to larger external funding and long-term impact.
Overall, the program functions as a catalyst for new research, helping investigators develop promising ideas into scalable projects that advance precision health and reduce disparities in Asian populations.
The Stanford Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery is pleased that this year’s award went to Ngan Huang, PhD, Associate Professor (Research) of Cardiothoracic Surgery, for her project titled: “AI-Mediated Drug Screening in Microgravity to Counteract Sarcopenia in Asian Americans.”
The award in the 2025 cycle was presented to another faculty member in the department, Natalie Lui, MD, Assistant Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery (Thoracic Surgery). Her project, “Lung Cancer Screening in Asian Never-Smokers (LUNA) Study,” is still active today.
